Rugby is played by men and women and by boys and girls worldwide. More than 8.5 million people aged from six to 60+ regulary participate in the playing of the game. The wide veriation of skills and physical requirements needed for the game mean that there is an opportunity for individuals of evrey shape, size and ability to participate.

Germiston Simmer Junior Rugby Club is a rugby club based in Germiston and we service our surrounding community. We provide each and every child in our community the opportunity to learn and play the game of rugby. We believe in supporting our youth, and strive to enhance their skills.

Rugby is a great option for your son or daughter, (
starting from under 7 right up to the under 18s)
giving them the opportunity to play a game that will teach them how to be a leader on and off the field.

“Our youth is our future

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club is affiliated to the Golden Lions Rugby Union and competes against 14 other clubs in our league. Youth club rugby has really gone through transformation over the last couple of years and the direct involvement of the Golden Lions Rugby Union and the BokSmart National Rugby Safety Program has created a professional, healthy and safer playing environment for all players, coaches, referees and spectators.

Our under-13 to under-18 players will have the opportunity to go to the Lions IPT trials. The Lions IPT team is known as the “Rooibokke”. This team is selected from all 15 youth development clubs which fall under the Golden Lions Rugby Union in the province. The final 22-player squad is entered into the annual IPT tournament. The players get the opportunity to play against other unions like the Bulls, Falcons and Sharks.

Of the 22 players who were selected for the under-18 Rooibokke in 2015, eight received bursaries from universities after being scouted at the tournament. These are truly valuable opportunities created through the rugby development program and through the hard work of the coaches, club managers and parents.

Practice will start in May every Monday and Wednesday between 18:00 and 19:00 @ Germiston Stadium
